We are proud to serve members in over 40 states!
AGS maintains its own genealogical library, with maps, manuscripts and over 15,000 items of local and out-of-state reference material. We have Ancestor Chart Files and a Surname-Area File, indexed by family names to help you make connections with others searching the same lines. Additionally, we have other non-catalogued items including the Mims and Mealing Collections, a microfiche collection, and a special loose papers collection. We are working diligently to provide online content for our members and will update as content becomes available.
Research trips to other regional libraries or archives are offered periodically throughout the year. Members usually carpool for these trips. Occasionally a trip is planned to a more distant destination requiring three or more days. Professional transportation is hired for these longer trips, which have included the National Archives in Washington, D.C. and the Virginia State Library & Archives in Richmond, VA.
We also take part in genealogical research and projects to further the advancement of research for the public. Two AGS projects currently underway include indexing public records that have not previously been published. Please inquire for more information.
More information on our library catalogue and special collections will be updated here shortly. Check back often!
