Southern Echoes – AGS Newsletter

For our 30 years as a Society, Southern Echoes has kept us informed with what’s going on in our organization, in the genealogical community, and among our members. It includes book reviews; queries; Surname­ Area Search Files for making contacts with other family searchers; recaps of our lectures series of genealogical/historical presentations by noted speakers; local, regional, and national genealogy news and announcements; gift lists of books, etc. to our library; a summary of Council Meeting Minutes to keep everyone informed of where we’ve been and where we’re going.

Ancestoring – The Society’s Numbered Journal

Ancestoring is the Society’s numbered journal. Approximately 65,000 individual­ name entries from old records have appeared in 13 volumes (Ancestoring I – XIII) through 1990 along with historical background articles, cemetery articles, cemetery inscriptions from St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, First Presbyterian Church, Magnolia Cemetery, Cedar Grove Cemetery, courthouse records, naturalizations and more.

Ancestoring Monograph Series (AMS)

AGS has published some wonderful books in its Ancestoring Monograph Series (AMS):

  • Quaker Records in Georgia , Wrightsborough 1772­-1793, Friendsborough 1776­-1777
    • Containing minutes of the Quaker congregation which settled in (now) McDuffie County, near Augusta, in the late 1700′s. Included are intriguing day­ to­day accounts of the troubled Revolutionary War times (which Quakers referred to as “the commotion”) and births, marriages and deaths
  • 1860 Census of Edgefield County, SC
  • 1860 Census of Abbeville County, SC
  • Summerville Cemetery, Augusta
  • Index to City Directories of Augusta, Georgia 1841-­1879
    • Compiled in 1991 by Ray Rowland, lists all entries found in extant directories published for: 1841, 1859, 1861, 1865­-66, 1867, 1872, 1874­75 and 1879
